Puzzles
God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him. Psalm 18:20 MSG I was looking at some puzzles the other day and was taken in by the beauty of each finished picture on the back of the box. So much detail. So much color. Beautiful landscapes and scenes that made you want to be there. One puzzle had 1000 pieces, another had 750 and others had 400. Each was unique and regardless of the number of pieces, once completed would make the exact picture it was intended to make. Our lives are just like those puzzles. There is a final display that will awe and amaze us…

The Family Business
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:20 My husband has often talked about the different construction contractors that have owned their own businesses. As soon as their kids are old enough they start working for the family business. The hopes of the fathers is that one day their kids will be able to step in and work the business from the experience and knowledge they have accummulated over the years. As children of God we too have been called to work in the family business and that business is the work of…

God has no grandchildren
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12 I have been blessed with two wonderful granddaughters. They are a gifts from God and bring so much joy into my life. When I read the notes in my study today that said, “God has no grandchildren,” I had to pause and think about that for a moment. The statement came from my study in Genesis 28 that tells the story of Jacob leaving his parents home and heading out to make a life for himself. The study notes read; “God’s covenant promise to Abraham and Isaac…

An Attitude of Service
“Drink, my lord,” she said, and quickly lowered the jar to her hands and gave him a drink. After she had given him a drink, she said, “I’ll draw water for your camels too, until they have had enough to drink.” So she quickly emptied her jar into the trough, ran back to the well to draw more water, and drew enough for all his camels. Genesis 24: 18-20 Today’s passage is a hidden gem that was worth the extra time digging a little deeper. It’s easy to pass it over and think that Rebekah was a kind person who gave water to a traveler and his camels. But if you take a moment…

Dependent Faith
Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with a jar on her shoulder. Genesis 24:15 Abraham’s servant, Eliezer had been tasked with finding a wife for Isaac. As he approach a watering well in the land that he had been sent to, he prayed and asked God to make known to him the woman that God had chosen for Isaac. Before he even finished his prayer, Rebekah came out with a jar on her shoulder. Obviously Eliezer had learned much about faith and about God from Abraham. He was putting into practice what he had seen in the life of Abraham and God was demonstrating His faithfulness both to…

God Goes Before You
“God, God of my master Abraham, make things turn out well in this task I’ve been given.” Genesis 24:42 MSG Stepping out in faith can be frightening because it requires us to tread into the unknown. Often the tasks set before us from God feel that way. They are given with the soul purpose of teaching us dependence on Him. He doesn’t give us all the answers or details because part of the task is learning to trust that those will be given when they are needed. In today’s passage, Eliezer was given the task of finding a wife for Isaac, Abraham’s son. He was sent to Abraham’s home country…

Vulnerable
“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Matthew 14:28-30 I have a process when I read my daily passages. I first read it from the NIV translation, then read the same passage from the Message translation and finally read the study notes from the Life Application Study Bible. Sometimes the NIV version is a bit difficult to understand so reading the Message version simplifies it and then…

Morning prayer
Lord, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress. God will be the sure foundation for your times. God keeps your days stable and secure— salvation, wisdom, and knowledge in surplus, and best of all the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure. Isaiah 33: 2, 6 NIV/MSG I woke up the other morning feeling worn out and tired, but the moment that I read today’s passage I began to feel strength and peace. What a beautiful way to start the day, hearing God’s Word tell me that He will be my strength when I don’t feel that I have any and that He…

Walk this way
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” Isaiah 30:21 I’ve been watching Little House On The Prairie reruns and one episode came to mind when I read this verse. There was an old blind man who lived on a mountain with his son. Charles and Laura had been hunting and he was shot by accident when his loaded gun was tipped over. It was up to Laura and the old man to go for help since the man’s son was away checking traps. Laura had eyes to see and the old man had…

Perfect Timing
But God’s not finished. He’s waiting around to be gracious to you. He’s gathering strength to show mercy to you.God takes the time to do everything right—everything. Those who wait around for him are the lucky ones. Isaiah 30:18 MSG I feel like today’s bible study was a successful treasure hunt. When I came across this passage I re-read it a few times while slowing my mind down to really take it in. In this fast paced world it can be difficult to wait, and for me, a person who hates procrastination, it can be excruciating waiting for outcomes. Many times I’ve acted impuslively and shortly after realized that if had just waited a…
