My Happy Place
You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. – Psalm 16:11 With the arrival of spring comes the opportunity to spend time at our weekend retreat. A few weeks ago I stayed overnight during the week for a short get-a-way and spent the time preparing it for the season. The thought of, “This is my happy place, ” kept coming to mind and while it is a relaxing and joyful place to be, I’m learning that My Happy Place isn’t a geographical location, rather it’s a person. That person is my Savior, Jesus Christ. It was…

Break the strings
Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. – 2 Corinthians 12:7-9 This morning as I read today’s passage I was given a visual way to look at it and apply it to my own issues. Yes, I have issues – a lot of them. The first thing that…

Even if…..
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” – Daniel 3:17-18 Today I woke up excited about the events of the day. I had been waiting several months for this day to come and my mind was whirling with joy. Then in a moment, with…

Be a Berean
Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. – Acts 17:11 During Holy Week I was blessed by God with the gift of remembering how amazing it is to dig deep into His Word. It was a week of being intentional about reading every word that applied to the story of His Passion for us. At the end of the week His message to me was, “Be a Berean.” The Bereans were residents of the city of Berea in Macedonia. Paul and Silas preached to…

The Godly Character of Joy
Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. Habakkuk 3:17-18 Joy is a characteristic in the life of a believer that has the ability to catch the attention of the world. It enables you to meet the challenges of life with enthusiasm and expectancy and flows from a deep conviction that God is alive, real and in control of your life. The world…

Remi’s Joy
My youngest granddaughter is usually very reserved. She is very observant and takes in the tiniest details, but she speaks only when she wants to and rarely shows much emotion. But she has always had the cutest little way of expressing joy. She quietly claps her hands near her chin as she squeezes her shoulders in and then smiles the sweetest smile and giggles softly. In those moments you know she is truly happy and excited. Those moments are precious to me because I know that they truly express what she feels in her heart. They make me smile especially if I had any part in making those moments happen.…

Because we love Him
We love because he first loved us. – 1 John 4;19 I was thinking today about why we do the things we do. Sometimes our actions are motivated by the rewards we seek, whether they are tangible, such as money and things of this world, or intangable such as the praise of others and acceptance. What I’ve been learning, as the Daughter of The King, is that as His Holy Spirit lives in me and guides me, my purpose for doing the things I do is changing. It’s becoming more and more about Him and less about me. I’m learning that my responses and actions should be because I love Him. It’s in that…

It All Began With Love
I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. – Isaiah 6:1 My morning began with prayer and asking for the Lord’s leading about what to write today. I then opened my bible wondering where God would lead me for a message to share. It opened to the passage above and I was reminded about where it all began. My story of becoming a believer, like many others, had times of planting seeds, watering them and watching them grow. It began with two strangers praying for our family while at the children’s hospital. Then meeting new friends who would love us like Jesus,…

You Know Me
God, investigate my life; get all the facts firsthand.I’m an open book to you; even from a distance, you know what I’m thinking. You know when I leave and when I get back; I’m never out of your sight. You know everything I’m going to say before I start the first sentence.I look behind me and you’re there, then up ahead and you’re there, too— your reassuring presence, coming and going. This is too much, too wonderful— I can’t take it all in!- Psalm 139: 1-6 (MSG) Familiarity is a wonderful thing among family and friends. We’ve often heard the comment, “Oh, you know me,” spoken with the expectation that whatever has just occured is not a surprise. Isn’t it…

Arise Shine for Your Light Has Come
“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.”- Isaiah 60:1 Just looking at the cute little face makes my heart smile. It was 23 years ago today that Brock went to be with Jesus. Sometimes it feels like it was just yesterday. I am so grateful for the words that God gave me that morning in the form of a song sung by little children that Brock had on a recorded tape. They were singing, “Arise shine for your light has come and glory of the Lord has risen upon you.” I could just picture the angels singing as Brock closed his eyes in this life and in…
