Lessons In the Waiting: Laugh A Little

When you think of Spring 2020 words like pandemic, quarantine, Covid 19 and toilet paper hoarding might come to mind. Yet through all the chaos and uncertainty there are many lessons to be learned in the waiting. This time is a gift from our loving God.

Awhile back I took a personality test and found out that I don’t laugh enough. So I added the word laugh on my daily to do list. That may sound strange, but I’m finding that it makes me intentional about finding something to smile and laugh about every day.

A man from the church I attend has done a fabulous job of posting memes on Facebook throughout the quarantine that always seem to do the job. I also started watching SGN – Some Good News. It’s a site that actor John Krazinski created to show that there are many good things happening in the world in spite of this pandemic.

A quote from Psycology Today states that laughter reduces pain, increases job performance, connects people emotionally, and improves the flow of oxygen to the heart and brain. Laughter, it’s said, is the best medicine.

Most importantly, God’s word tells us; This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Each and every day brings new opportunities and a chance for a fresh start. We can put yesterday’s trials and troubles aside and begin again. Resolve to find joy and laughter somewhere in your day today; and to bring laughter or joy to another person you encounter. Pray for guidance and assistance, and be open to opportunities for laughter and joy. Remember that each day is a gift from God. Look forward to a wonderful day ahead and not backward to the mistakes and problems of yesterday. (BibleNet.com)

My Prayer

Father, thank you for creating us in Your image and for the gift of laughter. It is making such a difference in my spirit and how I handle daily situations. Thank you for the many good things that are happening around us and in this world and for those who are making it possible to see them. You are a good God. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Where does my help come from?

Psalm 118:24

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
