Lessons In the Waiting: Essential

When you think of Spring 2020 words like pandemic, quarantine, Covid 19 and toilet paper hoarding might come to mind. Yet through all the chaos and uncertainty there are many lessons to be learned in the waiting. This time is a gift from our loving God.

Another word that we’ve all heard several times through this quarantine experience is “Essential.” While I understand the meaning and purpose behind its use in this situation, I’ve also seen how it has created division and been hurtful to many. Who determines who’s essential and who’s not?

The truth is that everyone is Essential and needed. We all have a purpose or we wouldn’t be here. Romans 12: 4-5 reads, “For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”

Regardless of your background, your profession, your experience, your age, your abilities, or anything else, please know that “YOU MATTER!”

While we should be grateful for those who have been called to the front lines to work in this season we should also remember that we are all in this together. Many who have not been working their usual jobs have faithfully been on their knees in prayer for those who are. Prayer is Essential!

I heard a nurse on the radio station yesterday thanking them for the music and the listeners for their prayers. She said she wouldn’t be able to do her job without them. We all need each other.

So no matter how the world categorizes what you do, remember that you belong to God and you have tremendous value. You were created with purpose. You are beautifully and wonderfully made.

My Prayer

Father I thank you that You created us with unity and fellowship in mind. Thank you for everyone who is faithfully doing whatever they can wherever they are. Please continue to strengthen each and every person and help them to see their need for each other. Thank you for creating us with purpose and meaning. Thank you for giving us value. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Where does my help come from?

Psalm 139: 13-14

For you created my inmost being;
    you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
