Leering Looks
It is much easier to fit in with the world around us than it is to stand out and live differently as Jesus called us to do. But as true disciples of Christ we know that our lives will be more blessed when we follow His instructions. The lifestyle that Jesus described in the Sermon on the Mount is the complete opposite of what is accepted and expected in the world we live in.
Jesus began His message by saying, “You have heard it said”….. and then added, “But I say.” He made it very clear that His ways are not the world’s ways and His instructions for His followers will be radically different from world views, which will make us stand out as beacons of hope and light to others.
Your heart can be corrupted by lust even quicker than your body. Those leering looks you think nobody notices—they also corrupt. Matthew 5:27-28
The Bible tells us not to commit adultery, but Jesus said, “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” He knew how quickly our thoughts can turn into actions when we focus on them. In that context, I would bet that we all have sinned in this area whether married or not.
Advertising companies know that sex sells and it’s not just men ogling women, it works the other way too. A commercial for Diet Coke showed women watching construction workers through the office window, making comments and daydreaming about romantic fantasies. They try to make is seem harmless, but it is truly bait from the enemy to take your focus from the things that would honor God and place them anywhere else.
I remember when TV would not allow nudity and now it has become common. The slow simmer of compromise has made the unacceptable, not only acceptable but normal. Now more than ever we as believers are challenged to live differently.
As a Daughter of The King, would Our King be please with the thoughts in our minds? Would He be okay with the memes we post on social media or forward to others? Would you invite Him to watch that movie or TV show with you?
Our enemy the devil prowls around looking for opportunities to devour our relationship with Christ. He is calculating, subtle, and very mindful that it all begins with our thoughts. Don’t give him any ground. Don’t allow him a single inch or momentary thought.
