Lead Me
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. – Psalm 32:8
Yesterday we talked about the different places that the Lord lead the Israelites, each with a purpose of teaching them about the redemption He had provided for them, and us, before the creation of the world. His desire was that they would trust Him completely regardless of where He took them or what He asked them to do.
1 Corinthians 10:6 tell us that these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. Over and over again, they were short sighted, only seeing their immediate needs or wants, instead of trusting that God had bigger plans for them. And because of their lack of trust they missed living in the peace and confidence that comes with fully obeying our faithful God.
No matter where our individual paths may go, as believers they all lead to the cross. Redemption is what this life is all about, being restored in a right relationship with God. In that relationship we have the privilege of walking and talking with the Lord as we follow His leading in our lives.
At the cross we remember the sacrifice that Jesus made on our behalf because of His love for us. It’s at the cross that we remember what it truly important…Jesus, not the things of this world. At the cross we can lay down the things that burden us and take up the hope and peace that is offered. At the cross we are reminded that it’s all about Jesus.
Hillsong United has a song called Lead Me to the Cross that speaks to this very thing. Let it be a prayer of your heart to be led by the Lord.
Father, just as the words of that song said, “rid me of myself,” Lord I pray that I will willingly surrender to Your leading and remember that You are what truly matters Lord. You will guide me through every path that comes in life and ultimately it is about Your love for us and the redemption You provided to all who believe. In Jesus’ name, amen.
