This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it.
(Psalm 118:24)
Have you ever had one of those mornings when one thing after another goes in a different direction that you planned or would like it too? That’s how my day started and as I thought of the old saying that “things happens in threes” I was reminded that that was just wishful thinking.
The truth was that I was under attack and my thoughts were quickly spiraling out of control much like the Hulk roller coaster that I experienced a few weeks ago. Slowly and steadily my thoughts kept building up causing anxiety, anger and frustration. Then in one brief moment they were launched into a twisting and turning downward spiral. I felt out of control and panicked that I wouldn’t be able to reign them back in.
Then when I spoke the name of Jesus and began to pray the brakes were applied. A sudden stop. This gave me time to catch my breath and speak words of truth from memory verses that I have hidden in my heart and mind. But then I began to feel the pull of the vicious mental ride again and had to verbally say, “STOP! I want off this ride!”
In that moment I again spoke God’s word over the situation. “Submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:7-8)
Recently the Lord has been teaching me about my Daily Bread. It is a new way to look at my to do list and reminds me that everything on my Daily Bread list has already been provided for by God. That provision comes in not only in physical form, but in patience, wisdom, correction, peace and joy.
Jesus is my daily portion and all I need. He provides a way out when temptations seem to take hold and draw us away and down from Him. When we choose to reach out to His helping hand -speak His word and pray – we can rest assured that we are forgiven and given a firm place to stand. He puts new thoughts in our hearts and minds and gives us a reason to praise Him.
Be Intentional about resisting temptations with the word of God.
Praises & Prayers
Father, thank you for Your quick and loving response in the moment that I cried for help. You are faithful Lord and I thank you for giving me truth to think about and reminding me that You are my Daily Bread. In Jesus’ name, amen.
