Live Boldly

Keeping Promises

The Lord answered Hannah’s prayer and she gave birth to a son and named him Samuel. Imagine the joy she felt as she held the answer to her prayers in her arms. Kissing his sweet little cheeks, smelling the new baby scent as she rocked him to sleep. Counting all his fingers and toes as she gently rubbed each one. How many times she must have caught herself staring at the miracle before her.

Then there were the moments of remembering her promise to God. She had promised that if He would give her a son, she would give him back to the Lord for all the days of his life. To do what she had promised Hannah would have to give up what she wanted most – her precious little son.

In dedicating her only son to God, Hannah was dedicating her entire life and future to Him. Because Samuel’s life was from God, Hannah was not really giving him up. Rather, she was returning him to God, who had been the one to give him to Hannah in the first place.

Hannah’s example sets a high bar for us to follow, but if we can remember that everything we have was given to us by God for His purposes, then with a right heart we can willingly give it all back to Him.

Praises & Prayers

Father, thank you for the many wonderful gifts You give. Our families, health, home, church, jobs and so much more. Help us to remember they are all from You and for Your good purposes. Give us willing hearts to surrender them to You and Your will. You are a good Father. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Messages from His Word

Ecclesiastes 5: 4-5 MSG

When you tell God you’ll do something, do it—now.
God takes no pleasure in foolish drivel. Vow it, then do it.
Far better not to vow in the first place than to vow and not pay up.
