Joy
The precious picture of Salvation ends with joy. Oh the joy that fills our souls when we come to know Jesus and His promise of spending eternity with Him!
Hannah’s joy was evident in the prayer that bears her name which was written for us. “My heart rejoices in the Lord!” “There is no one holy like the Lord!” “There is no Rock like our God!” Amen and Amen!!
While studying the life of Hannah I discovered a little nugget that I had never seen before. My heart went out to her being separated from her son for all those years. Then I read that later when Samuel was serving as a judge in Israel, he would go on a circuit from Bethel to Gilgal to Mizpah, judging Israel in all these places. Then he would return to Ramah because his home was there. (1 Samuel 7:17) Ramah was his hometown, it’s where Hannah lived! What a gift for Hannah to see her son serving the Lord! That’s Joy!
Over the years I’ve learned that I can experience the Joy of The Lord even in the darkest moments. I read Hannah’s prayer over and over when I knew that my son would soon be leaving me to be with the Lord. I wondered how Hannah found strength to let her son go and discovered that God provided all that was needed both for Hannah and myself.
I wondered if I would ever be joyful again and the Lord showed me that He is my joy and He gave me the promise of resurrection and the hope of eternity with Him. One day I will see my son again in our hometown of heaven.
So like Hannah, I believe and my prayer will echo hers – “My heart rejoices in the Lord!” “There is no one holy like the Lord!” “There is no Rock like our God!” Amen and Amen!!
