Jesus Timing
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.” Isaiah 55:8
We live in a right now society. Everthing has to be instantaneous, warp speed and faster than ever. Perhaps that’s why it is so difficult to trust in God’s timing, which is a universal truth that we, just like our friends Mary and Martha and the disciples, have to learn.
When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days, and then he said to his disciples, “Let us go back to Judea.”
After he had said this, he went on to tell them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.” His disciples replied, “Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better.” Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep. So then he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead, and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.”
By the time that Jesus arrived in Bethany Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. Imagine the heartache and confusion that was going through Mary and Martha’s minds as well as the disciples. Why did Jesus take so long to respond? He healed others, why not their brother?
Aren’t we just like them? We question God’s timing about almost everything. When will I receive that promotion? When will I find a husband? When will I finally get pregnant? When will God come through for me?
The answer is as Jesus said, “when it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” God has a reason for each delay and sometimes that delay is exactly what will give us time to search our hearts and see if our desires align with God’s will.
There have been many times that my requests of God have been met with a delayed response. In the waiting God has lovingly helped me understand that what I’ve desired of Him is not always best for me. The delay was a gift from God so that I could slow down and make sure that my request was coming from a right heart that wanted God’s will, not my own.
In God’s perfect timing everything falls into place. In those moments we see more clearly and understand how His will and ways are always best.
Be Intentional about waiting for God’s perfect timing.
Praises & Prayers
Father, please forgive me to my lack of patience. Help me to always trust in Your timing and know that You also have purpose in the waiting. Let my requests be made from a heart that desires Your will and not my own. Help me to trust that You know what’s best for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Lamentations 3: 25-26
The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;
it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the Lord.
