Jesus – The Center of Your World
When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.” (John 11: 24-26)
While Mary was traveling with Jesus and His disciples she saw and heard many miracles and teachings. One day after Jesus had finished praying He was driving out a demon that was mute. When the demon left, the man who had been mute spoke, and the crowd was amazed. But some of them said, “By Beelzebul, the prince of demons, he is driving out demons.” Others tested him by asking for a sign from heaven.
Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: “Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall. “Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.”
I would imagine that this caught Mary’s full attention just like when we hear about someone going through trials that we have been through ourselves. Our hearts and minds instantly understand because we have been there, done that.
Then Jesus said, “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.”
That must have sent chills down Mary’s spine. No way did she ever want to return to her life before Jesus. But in listening to the warning she obviously also heard the solution; make Jesus the center of your life.
When we encounter Jesus – He changes everything. Our whole life becomes about following and serving Him. Our story becomes so intertwined with Him that it is unimaginable without Him.
Mary’s life had been swept clean and she made the choice and was intentional about filling it back up with Jesus. Her old demons may have tempted to re-enter, but they found her life filled with the One who would give her the strength to overcome even if they brought others.
In Christ your life has been swept clean, your demons expelled and new life is possible. It’s your choice how you will fill the space.
Be Intentional about filling your life with Christ and making Him the Center of your world.
