Jesus teaches about Worry
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:31-34
Worry means to torment oneself with or suffer from disturbing thoughts. It’s a fear of the unknown and is a tool of the enemy used to tempt us to doubt the goodness of God and to take our focus off the peace, hope and confidence that is found in Christ.
When we worry and fear the things of this world instead of revering God who controls it all, we show Him irreverence because we are trusting in something other than His sovereign hand.
The Lord knows that sheer willpower will not enable us to conquer our fears so He reminds us through His Word that we can turn our fear and worry, which He did not give us, over to Him and replace it with the love, power and sound mind that He did give us.
His Word tells us not to be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present our requests to Him. And His peace, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus.
This is what it means to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. We take our fears and worries to God in prayer so that we can determine through His Holy Spirit and His Word, what His good, pleasing and perfect will is for our lives. In this act of faith we are seeking first His kingdom and His righteousness and all other needed things will be given to us as well.
