Jesus teaches about Treasures in Heaven
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-20
Who or what makes your heartbeat a little faster? What do you spend the majority of your time devoted to? The answer to those questions will help you identify what you treasure most in this world.
The sad truth is that our accomplishments, relationships and even our possessions will eventually be gone. That’s why we need to hold tight to what is eternal and matters most, a personal relationship with Christ.
In this relationship we actively trust Jesus with the details of our lives as we obey His instructions and love Him through the way we choose to serve Him. We can do this because we believe in His promises to never leave us nor forsake us and that He will be the source of providing everything we will ever need.
When we recognize how priceless this relationship is, we will guard it as the treasure that it is. The things of this world will lose their luster in comparison and even the suffering we endure for Christ will bring about a peace and contentment beyond understanding.
God will shield us from the enemy whose only desire is to steal, kill and destroy by reminding us that Christ came to give us life and to give it abundantly. He is our very great reward and we have no need to worry about tomorrow when we make Christ our priority today.
