Jesus teaches about Praying

This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.  Matthew 6:9-13

Jesus gave us the perfect example of what our prayer life should look like.  Often He went away to a quiet place to pray and He was intentional about spending time with the Father.

Because of the Cross we now have full access to the throne of God.  We can approach confidently knowing that God desires to hear from us.  He knows all our needs before we ask and when we don’t have the words to pray, the Holy Spirit intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.

God desires our prayers to be authentic, real and personal just like our relationship with Him. Jesus taught that they don’t need to be structured or rehearsed, given at specific times or by those in authority.  We can pray! And we’re encouraged to do it continually with joy and thanksgiving.

As disciples of Christ we can tell Him anything, anytime and anywhere with heartfelt words, with joy, with tears.  It’s like speaking with a dear friend who completely understands even more than we do.

This is the confidence we have in approaching God in prayer: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.  And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.

What a beautiful thing to be heard by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
