Live Boldly

It’s life with Him

On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel:

“Sun, stand still over Gibeon,
and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.”
 So the sun stood still,
    and the moon stopped,
till the nation avenged itself on its enemies,

as it is written in the Book of Jashar.

The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day.  There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the Lord listened to a human being. Surely the Lord was fighting for Israel! Joshua 10:12-14

Have you ever had one of those days where your tasks seem to never end and you just feel…..done? You’re working as hard as you can to accomplish all that needs to be done, and you’re running out of daylight. Your emotions are on edge, your energy is running on fumes, and the finish line feels just out of reach. That would perfectly describe my situation yesterday.

There was a point when I took a moment, put my head on my desk, and cried. I was out of energy, my emotions were freyed and I was done, but not done, I still had to finish. In the midst of my tears, I cried out, “Lord, help me finish well.” Immediately, that prayer was answered, and it felt like I had spiritually and emotionally plugged into His strength, and I was able to do what needed to be done.

Then, only as God can do, He gave me a devotional this morning that spoke into my situation. It was the story of Joshua and one of the battles he was fighting, when the daylight was ending, and he wasn’t finished. By faith, he told the sun and the moon to stand still.

A quote from the study read, “The sun stood still, but only because a servant of God refused to move on before God’s purpose was complete. The heavens paused because faith spoke.” I was so encouraged by this message.

Thoughts that came to mind after reading it were:

  • Finish what God has given you to do
  • Finish it well, as if for God
  • Do it with joy and gratitude – because it’s His provision in so many different areas of your life
  • Through your daily tasks, you’ll experience:
    • His presence
    • Him teaching you
    • Seeing His hand in your life and the lives of others
    • His leading
    • Lessons learned
    • His correction
    • His love

It’s life with Him! Those things that can make us feel weighed down are opportunities to put our faith and trust in Him, knowing that whatever may come, He is fully aware, has gone before us, and has already provided the victory. When we realize this, we, like Joshua, can move forward in faith and confidence to complete each and every task before us because we know that if God has brought us to it, He will bring us through it.
