Identity
The first mention of Esther in the bible is by her Hebrew name Hadassah. The rest of her story is told using her Persian name Esther. We are told that she was raised by her cousin Mordecai because she had neither father nor mother and that she had a lovely figure and was beautiful. Mordecai had taken her as his own daughter when her father and mother had died.
So much can be learned from that one verse about Esther’s identity. How tragic that must have been for a young girl to lose both her parents. She was orphaned but also taken in by her cousin and loved as if she was his own.
Her two names represent the two different worlds that she lived in. One her religious heritage and the other the worldly environment that she was placed in due to historical events.
So many life events that could affect her identity; orphaned, adopted, Godly, worldly, lovely and beautiful. Each circumstance was used to refine her and prepare her for the call of God on her life. With each twist of destiny she had the choice of what to believe about her true identity.
Like Esther we also have many life events that could affect our identity if we allowed them too. But we are not defined by our circumstances, rather we are defined by who created us. As Daughter’s of the King our identity is solid and secure in God. No matter what trials we face or what worldly names we may be given we will never loose our identity as His Beloved.

Praises & Prayers
Father, thank you for calling me and creating me to be Yours. It’s so easy to listen to world and the identities that it tries to place on us, but I pray that we will remember we are Yours, we are loved and our identity is found in You alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.
