Live Boldly

I Love talking to God about you

Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes. – Nehemiah 4:14

We often forget that prayer is our first line of defence and that the battle is the Lords. We fight for our families on our knees and with His Word.

Prayer is one of my favorite things. It’s the opportunity to talk with God about anything and everything. I remember before I became a believer, the prayers of two men over my family. I was amazed at the way they prayed as if talking to a dear friend, One with authority and power to bring change. Their confidence in the words they spoke gave me a desire to know the Lord in the same intimate way.

Over the years I have grown in my prayer life and have been given many opportunities to pray for my family, friends, and many others through weekly prayer groups and social media requests. But now the Lord is teaching me to pray His Word. I never learned how to do that and I’m so excited to be discovering this amazing and deeper way to pray.

I’m learning that God works through the process of prayer to expand our vision, to deepen our hunger, to stretch our faith, and to lift our desires higher. We start the prayer process desiring something from Him; we end it desiring only Him. (Praying Scriptures for Your Adult Children – Jodie Bernt)

Many times I’ve prayed my will for my loved ones and found myself frustrated at the unchanged behaviors or circumstances. I’m realizing that I pray shallow prayers, which is why I believe the Lord is blessing me with this opportunity to learn how to pray His will, His word instead.

Yesterday I put this new learning into practice and found myself in deep, wholehearted prayer with tears streaming down my face as I prayed His will instead of my own. He opened my eyes and heart to the deeper issues that my loved ones are facing and when I prayed His word, it gave me hope in the promises that it revealed. Promises to hold on to in the waiting for His perfect timing.

My prayer life is beginning to take on a whole new level of meaning and understanding. The issues that I pray for are out of my reach to fix, but they are not out of God’s and He invites me to join Him in the work He is doing, through prayer. What a privilege it is to be invited to work with God. What a blessing to be taught by God. What a joy it is to talk to God about you!
