Live Boldly

I Believe

“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;  and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” – John 11:25-26

I love to picture the scene in scripture as this verse unfolds. Lazarus had died and been buried in a tomb for four days. His sisters Mary and Martha were grief stricken and mourning. I know first hand how clouded your mind is after loosing a loved one. It feels like a bad dream and so unreal.

Then Jesus arrived. Martha went out to meet Him and said, “Lord,” if you had been here, my brother would not have died.  But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.” Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;  and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

“Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

Martha’s confession of her belief in Jesus changed everything. She was now sure of where her hope came from. There was a short period of time after Brock passed away that my faith was put to this same test. Did I really believe what I had professed so many times before?

If we lose a job, money or a home, those things can, in time be replaced. But loosing a loved one changes everything and no amount of money, prayers or good behavior will bring them back. It’s in that moment that we experience a crisis of belief. What do I really believe about Jesus? Do I believe that He is the resurrection and the life? Do I believe that He is the Savior of the World?

Yes, I believe!

That confession is what restores hope. It sets you back on the rock and gives you a firm place to stand. It becomes the anchor for your soul.

So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.  This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. – Hebrews 6:18-19

Be Intentional about believing in God’s Promises.

Praises & Prayers

Father, thank you for being our refuge and for giving us hope. You never lie Lord so we can hold tight to every promise that You have made. Help us to remember that and to believe. In Jesus’ name, amen.
