I Am The Light of the World
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12
To follow Jesus means to belive in and trust Him, which leads to, as Jesus himself said, light and life. The light shows us what we could not see and guides our every step. Our part is to follow Him, to submit ourselves to His guidance, and respond to His direction.
As the seasons are changing we are starting to see that it stays lighter longer with each passing day. What a joy and hopeful reminder that spring is just around the corner. Like winter, I just came through an emotionally dark season and I have to say, seeing the rays of His light has brought so much relief, hope and encouragement.
This world can be a dark place and at times it doesn’t take much to send us spiraling down a dark, twisting hole of wrong thinking. But it’s in those moments that we need to hold on to the One who will bring light to our paths and make the darkness flee.
Rather than dwell on the circumstances, words, and trials that cause dark thoughts, we can choose to counter them with His truth. His light. The word tells us in Psalms 119:105, “By your words I can see where I’m going; they throw a beam of light on my dark path. I’ve committed myself and I’ll never turn back living by your righteous order. Everything’s falling apart on me, God; put me together again with your Word.” (MSG)
It wasn’t until I applied God’s word, to each and every situation that I was dealing with, that I finally could see it from God’s perspective instead of my own. His word revealed His truth that overpowered hurtful words. His word corrected my hasty judgements. His word reminded me that I am loved. He word encouraged me to stand on His truth as He provided clear direction back to the path He intended for me to follow.
The Psalm continues with, “I inherited your book on living; it’s mine forever—what a gift! And how happy it makes me! I concentrate on doing exactly what you say.” Psalm 119: 111-112 (MSG)
Father, thank you for rescuing me from the darkness that surrounded me and shining light on my path. I so appreciate Your words of encouragement and correction. Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. In Jesus’ name, amen.
