I Am The Gate
Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” – John 10:7-10
For many shepherds, the sheepfold (where sheep slept overnight) was attached to their home. So, to enter the sheepfold was to come home. As “the Gate” Jesus made it perfectly clear that He is the only means of coming home to God. He is the only way we can become part of the people of God. There is no other way. When you go through the gate, you are home, able to go “in and out.” It’s where you find an abundant life, complete with fullness and freedom. What a beautiful metaphor!
We have been given the freedom to walk through the gate that Jesus has opened to us and experience abundant life. He not only gave His life for us, but gives life to us right now.
This world offers many things that promise a good and amazing life, but deep down they are only thieves and robbers that eventually take away our freedom and make us slaves to wrong desires.
Jesus offers forgiveness, relationship and abundant life in Him because He is The Way, The Truth, and The Life.
If you’ve never entered the gate, (accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior) I invite you do so right now. It begins with a simple, sincere prayer.
Dear Lord Jesus:
I know that I am a sinner and I believe that you died to pay the penalty for my sins. Thank you for taking my punishment. Please come into my heart and help me to live for you. Amen.
Welcome home! Welcome into the loving arms of your Savior! All the angels in heaven are rejoicing at your decision to choose Christ and the life that He offers to you. I pray that Jesus will be the Lord of your life.
This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life. – Deuteronomy 30: 19-20
