I Am
God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” – Exodus 3:14
The phrase “I Am” in the passage above reflect on when God introduced Himself to Moses with the expression, “I Am who I Am.” This statement became a way to connect with God personally and was used throughout Israel’s history to convey that God always was, always is and always will be.
In the New Testament Jesus gave seven “I Am” statements which help to teach us about His character and give us visual ways to understand His purpose, power, mercy and love for us. As we study these statements we will also see how He intends for us to connect with Him on a more personal level by understanding the meanings and power behind each one.
This month the Royal Records theme is: Jesus is The Life. To know the abundant life that we are offered in Christ, we need to first know Him. He graciously told us all about Himself in the ” I Am” statements that we will study this month. My prayer is that you will be able to not only know with assurance the truth of who Jesus is, but that you will also be able to speak with confidence your own “In Christ, I Am…..” statements when we finish.
The “I Am” statements found in the Gospel of John and are:
- I Am the Bread of Life – John 6:35
- I Am the Light of The World – John 8:12
- I Am the Gate – John 10:17
- I Am the Good Shepherd – John 10:11, 14
- I Am the Resurrection and The Life – John 11: 25
- I Am the Way, The Truth & The Life – John 14:6
- I Am the True Vine – John 15:1
I invite you to join me on this journey of discovery that will bring new understanding, hope and confidence as we step out into the life that has been freely offered to us in Christ and look forward to all the treasures in His Word that will be revealed.
