Hope for the Lost

Don’t overlook the obvious here, friends. With God, one day is as good as a thousand years, a thousand years as a day. God isn’t late with his promise as some measure lateness. He is restraining himself on account of you, holding back the End because he doesn’t want anyone lost. He’s giving everyone space and time to change. – 2 Peter 3:9

I was scrolling through some news feeds today and one headline caught my attention. It said, “World’s wealthiest man, Elon Musk, rejects salvation and prefers to end up in hell, ‘just like the vast majority of the earth’s populace.'” The article showed a social media post between Elon Musk and a Saudi Arabian Islamic cleric who admonished him to ‘confess his sins before a great creator’ should he eventually leave this earth. It was a very sad article to read.

I began to think about all the good he could do with the mass amount of money that he has. Then I imagined what an impact it would have if he chose to accept the gift of salvation and shared that on his social media platform. Instantly I was convicted by the Holy Spirit who wanted me to imagine the same about myself.

What good could I do with all that God has given me? Not just material possesions, but also with my time and energy. Am I using the social media platforms that I have access to, for sharing what God has done and who He is? Do I share the message of hope with a lost and hurting world?

I was reminded how patient God was with me when, in my younger days, my friends and I would often joke about being on the highway to hell. It didn’t seem to bother us because we were all going together. Thankfully there were people who shared about a better way. They shared about the grace that is offered through Christ and the hope that we have of knowing we can spend eternity in heaven with Him.

God’s desire is that none should perish, but just as the cleric also told Elon Musk, “You won’t die before your day.” The problem is that we don’t know when that day will be. All we know is that we have this moment and I pray that we use it for accepting God’s grace and for sharing the Good News with the lost.
