Divine Encounters

Here is your mother

When Jesus was on the cross He was surrounded by scoffers, soldiers and a few followers. The first mentioned was Mary, His mother. Even while He suffered excruciating pain He was taking care of her. As the oldest son it was His responsibility to look after her and that’s exactly what He did.

Standing near the cross were Jesus’ mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary (the wife of Clopas), and Mary Magdalene.  When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her, “Dear woman, here is your son.”  And he said to this disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from then on this disciple took her into his home. – John 19:25-17

Jesus entrusted His mother to a person who had faithfully followed Him and stayed with Him at the cross and that person was John. Seeing this event as a Divine Encounter is so touching. Not only was He taking care of her immediate needs, but He was also taking care of her spiritual and eternal needs. He provided for her in life and in His death.
