Heads Bowed Low
At prayer group the other day I was blessed to witness a beautiful sceen of heart felt submission to God. It’s a picture that I will carry in my mind for quite some time.
Two young women had heard about the prayer group and stopped by to participate. They shared their stories of lives filled will wrong choices and the severe consequences that came with those choices.
Their humility and honesty touched my heart and it broke for the many ways they were hurting. One of the beautiful things about them was the kindness and compassion that they had for each other, the hope they shared in their smiles and encouragement that came from the words they spoke.
At one point during the prayers I opened my eyes to see the girls and was witness to their passionate submission to God. Through deeply bowed heads and silent tears they prayed for others.
I thought of the story that Jesus told about the tax collector that stood at a distance and dared not even lift his eyes to heaven as he prayed. Instead, he beat his chest in sorrow, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me, for I am a sinner.”
Jesus’ response was “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
My prayer was just that for those beautiful souls, that they would know the love that God has for them. That they would deeply know that their sins are forgiven and their lives are filled with purpose.
Thank you Lord for letting me see Your grace and love in action.
