Happy Mother’s Day
What a beautiful day! Gorgeous weather, colorful flowers, sunshine and time with our families. That’s what Mother’s Day is all about. A time to celebrate family.
This holiday is a tough one for many people. Some have been praying for children and are still waiting. Others have their children all around them while some haven’t seen their children in years. Still others are missing loved ones due to many different circumstances.
I have some sweet friends who will be experiencing this holiday for the first time without one of their kids. It is such a difficult play on your emotions. On one hand you are excited to be with your children and that makes you happy. On the other hand one is missing and although you miss them every day, it is amplified today.
This holiday is also emotional for those who don’t have a relationship with their mothers or who cannot be with them for many reasons or who have lost their mothers.
Isn’t it amazing the amount of emotion that God created in women. He created us with the capacity to love deeply, to mourn, to laugh and to cry, often doing them all at the same time.
Whatever situation you find yourself in today, I hope you know that you are loved and that you matter. God knows every emotion that you are feeling today. He knows the longings, the joys, the sorrows, the loneliness and the loss. He is a good God and He is faithful. Remember you are a Daughter of the King!
Just as Jesus took care of His own mother while He hung on the cross, He will take care you. He is full of compassion and love. He has placed many different people in our lives that have filled the roles of a mother or a child even if they are not biological. Remember, we too were adopted into His family.
It’s okay to feel sadness today for those we’ve lost. It’s also okay to feel joy for those that remain and for the memories. Today is a day to show love and know that you’re not alone. Happy Mother’s Day!
My prayer
Father, I thank you for mothers and for the privilege of being a mother. I pray that you will be my friends who have lost children or mothers this year and give them peace and comfort. Surround them with love and walk them through this day. For those that have estranged relationships with their mothers or children I pray you will give them strength and grace and that they will trust in your timing. And for those that are waiting for children of their own, help them see Your faithfulness. You are a good God and You know about each and every one of us. Thank you Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Where does my help come from?
Ecclesiates 3: 1-8
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
