Happy Moments
I have a small book called Prayers to Share – 100 Pass-Along Notes for Joy. As I was readying through some of them today I came across another Barbara Johnson quote that summed up yesterday for me. “The truth is even in the midst of trouble, happy moments swim by us every day, like shining fish waiting to be caught.”
It had been a very trying day filled with expectations and changes. Deadlines on several projects were drawing near, conference calls and training webinars stacked up an already busy schedule. And to top it off, I needed to complete my to do list early because I was scheduled for Jury Duty later in the week and would possibly miss a few days of work.
I was trying to keep calm and positive and several times prayed for help to do that. God answered in Godly fashion. Mid-morning I received an email from a couple that I had met at a gas station back in February. They were driving from Canada to Arizona and needed a place to stay for the night and were not having much luck due to sporting events in town.
We talked and I was able to find them a room for the night. I didn’t have a business card with me so we parted ways with a hug. They had tracked me down and wanted to say hello and thanks again. What a sweet surprise!
Later in the day I had an appointment with a client who wanted to plan a trip for her family. I have arranged travel plans for her for several years and she usually travels with friends, but this time she would be traveling with her husband for the first time and wanted me to meet him.
When they arrived I introduced myself and her husband looked very familiar. As we talked it finally came to me where I had met him before, we had purchased his mother’s home. When I mentioned it to him we both laughed and his wife then had her own moment of connection and said, “This is the lady your mother talked about and was so glad had bought the house?” What a small world.
These happy moments “swam by” at just the perfect time. Throughout the rest of the day I had those two encounters to remind me that God was right there with me. I would imagine that every day has happy moments that are waiting to be caught. I’m sure that I’ve missed many because I’ve focused on the task and busyness more than seeing God in midst of them.
John 14:27 reads, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” What an amazing promise from God! He will give us His peace so we don’t need to be troubled or afraid.
The rest of the day was productive and I was able to finish tasks ahead of schedule and with a joyful attitude. Then to top it off, Jury Duty was cancelled! Thank you Lord!
My Prayer
Father, thank you for the happy moments that You give every day. Teach me to live in Your promises and know that I have no need to be troubled or fearful. You are God and You are good. You send moments of joy to encourage and strengthen us as we go about our days. Give us eyes to see them and grateful hearts to see Your hand in them. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Where does my help come from?
Romans 15:13
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
