Grief Share

How fitting that the message yesterday was on God’s timing and the bible story was about Lazarus, a man who had just died. I believe that God is preparing me for the upcoming series of Grief Share.

Grief Share is a program that helps people who are dealing with the loss of a loved one. The theme is, “Turning your mourning into Joy,” and I have experienced this first hand.

Years ago I attended a secular grief program to help me navigate through the loss of my son Brock. The program was lead by some wonderful people and I met others in the group who have become lifelong friends.

But one thing the group lacked was hope. I had learned that I wasn’t alone in my grief and how to cope with the day to day and surprise moments, but I needed more.

Years later the Lord provided Grief Share at the church I attended. It taught me how to work through the grief with the love and care of the God of Comfort and know with certainty the Hope that can only be found in Him.

Not long after completing the group I helped lead a holiday version and then eventually lead the full course at my local church. I had heard the saying, “Your greatest misery can become your greatest ministry,” and at first was a little discouraged that my ministry would be about something as painful as loss.

But then God showed me that the ministry is truly about Hope and I get to be a messenger of that Hope. I get to witness God’s comforting grace in the lives of people who are hurting in ways they never could imagine. I get to see the healing and the joy return.
