Good News Travels Fast

Gender reveals and birth notifications have taken on a whole new meaning in the last few years. Expectant parents plan unique and exciting ways to tell their friends and family about the upcoming birth of their children. But I think that Mary and Elizabeth probable had some of the most supernatural announcements one could imagine. Both women had gender reveals given by an angel.

While the angel Gabriel was speaking with Mary, he informed her that her relative, Elizabeth, was also expecting and that she was already 6 months along. Just think about that for a moment, the revelation of the child was given to her husband Zechariah months before and Gabriel knew exactly how far along Elizabeth was when he was speaking with Mary. I think God had that message revealed to Mary so she would be encouraged and reminded that He sees and knows everything!

Shortly after receiving the angel’s message that she would bear the Messiah, Mary went to visit Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.  In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!  But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?  As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her!” They were instantly bound together by the unique gifts that God had given them.

Christmas is a reminder to us of the most important birth announcement of all time…… the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We get the privilege of being messengers of the Good News. Just think about that….we get to tell others that Savior of the World has been born.

I pray that the Good News will travel fast. That this season will be a time when hearts are drawn to Him and away from all the hype that the world offers. I pray that every time we say Merry Christmas it’s because we know the reason for the joy in the world.

Be Intentional about sharing the Good News of the Savior’s birth.
