Godly Intervention
Years ago I was on a diet program that encouraged seeking God’s help to overcome the desire to overeat. The author said that God will help when asked and that He will provide a way out of temptation. Then its up to us to take that way of escape. It might be as simple as your food falling on the floor or a restaurant being closed that prevents you from indulging in more than you should. God will do that in other areas of our lives as well.
One time I had the opportunity to go into business with a co-worker. Everything seemed to be falling into place and we set out with great ambition. We found a good location to rent, perfect office decor, my co-worker paid the start up costs while I provided the labor. Doors just seemed to be opening left and right for us. But deep down I had a bad feeling and I knew that I hadn’t asked God if this was His will for me.
After a few months my co-worker asked me to do some unethical transactions and when I refused she said that I was to honest to do business with. She had secretly been making other plans with someone else for business and this situation provided a way out of the partnership for me. It was Godly intervention and I’m so thankful that He prevented my bad choice from going any further.
Have you ever had situations that God removed an opportunity in order to save you from something that was against His will? His Godly intervention can be disguised as moments when the timing wasn’t just right or plans just didn’t come together. He is so creative in ways that He watches out for us.
Hebrew 7:25 says, “Therefore He is able to save us completely those who come to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.”
My Christian friend, we do not realize how many times God intervenes in our lives. We sometimes overstep the boundaries that God has set and we are not where we should be, or we are not doing what we should be doing. When we make errors in judgment, many times God graciously intervenes to keep us from committing a terrible sin that we would regret the rest of our lives . I’m sure you can look back and recall many such situation. (J Vernon McGee)
David I’m sure felt that way when he found himself living among the Philistines. He had made a decision when he was tired and discouraged and now he was between a rock and hard place when King Achish expected him to go to battle with him against the Israelites, David’s own people. God intervened in a mighty way when the other Philistine Kings refused to have David go to battle with them.
David would never turn against his own people. However, David’s laps of faith led to stepping out of God’s will. This opened the way for sin to come into his life. But the interesting thing is, when a child of God steps out of the will of God, he will not lose his salvation, but he will have trouble.
God has given us a promise that no temptation has seized us except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let us be tempted beyond what we can bear. But when tempted He will provide a way out so that we can stand up under it. (1 Corinthians 10:13)
Thank you Lord for caring so much about us!
My Prayer
Father, I thank you for the many times that we recognized Your intervention in our lives and for the many times that we don’t. I know that You see and know all the details of our lives and You only want what is best for us. Help us learn to first do Your will and then to also take the ways of escape that You provide. Thank you for loving us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Where does my help come from?
1 Corinthians 10:13
“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you are able to bear. But when you are tempted He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”
