God has no grandchildren
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1:12
I have been blessed with two wonderful granddaughters. They are a gifts from God and bring so much joy into my life. When I read the notes in my study today that said, “God has no grandchildren,” I had to pause and think about that for a moment.
The statement came from my study in Genesis 28 that tells the story of Jacob leaving his parents home and heading out to make a life for himself. The study notes read;
“God’s covenant promise to Abraham and Isaac was offered to Jacob as well. But it was not enought to be Abraham’s grandson; Jacob had to establish his own personal relationship with God. God has no grandchildren; each person must have a personal relationship with Him. It is not to hear wonderful stories about Christians in your family. You need to become part of the story yourself.” (Life Application Study Bible)
That statement makes perfect sense. We become children of God the moment that we receive Christ as our Lord and Savior. When I think about how much I need Jesus every day and every moment of every day, I pray that my granddaughters will come to that same realization. I want them to know Him. To have a relationship with Him. To depend on Him. To trust Him. To fall in love with Him and be aware of His unconditonal and unending love for them. I want them to declare that He is the Lord and Savior of their life and have a desire and commitment to follow Him.
Those are all things I can wholeheartedly desire for them, but they need to make that decision for themselves. My relationship with Christ can encourage them, but what a glorious thing it will be when they have their own relationship with Him to lean on and hold tightly too. When they become, chidren of God and Daughters of The King!
