Live Boldly

God charts the road you take

Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers.

Not so the wicked!
    They are like chaff
    that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

Psalm 1

Years ago the church I was attending started a project to help attendees memorize scripture. Psalm 1 was one of the first on the list. The reason this passage was chosen was because it laid out the ground work of walking with the Lord daily by meditating on His word day and night. This passage also tells of the fruitful life a believer will have as they delight in His Word and walk with Him rather than the world.

The passage goes on to remind us that God is watching over us, watching over the way we go. In the Message bible that verse reads, “God charts the road you take.” That is an incredible reassurance that God has prepared a way for us and that Way is to seek Him day and night.

Picture in your mind a huge map with many different routes and pathways. It could be very confusing trying to decide which road to take. But God has already charted your course by the way that will bring you through the paths that He has already seen and knows will develop the most Godly character in your life.

Reading God’s Word is like reading the road map of life. He has already gone before us and is prepared to walk with us through the mountains and valleys that we will cross. He has already provided everything we will need to arrive at our eternal destination in victory.

Along the way God tenderly and patiently nurtures us and allows us to grow in maturity so that we will bear fruit in the proper season. Planting and reaping and prospering will not happen in the same day. When we plant ourselves securely beside the Living Water, we’ll be fed by the rich soil of His word, so that in His perfect timing we will thrive!

Father, Help me to delight in Your word and to trust Your perfect will and way. I believe in Your perfect timing and I surrender to Your process of growth. In Jesus Name, Amen.
