I was thinking of the battlefield of the mind and taking our thoughts captive last night when the idea of our thoughts being like emails came to mind.

Everyday several emails make their way in to my account. I have to sort through them and decide what to do with them. There are a lot of junk emails that are quickly deleted and sent to the trash without even being opened. Other emails are sorted and saved.

Those that are sorted and saved are important for many different reasons and meet a certain criteria in order to be kept. The same should happen with our thoughts. Philippians 4:8 reads:

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthythink about such things.

I’ve saved thoughts for years that didn’t fit that criteria and I’ve reopened them over and over again for no good reason. In doing so they have revealed anger, hurt and discouragement that didn’t need to resurface. It’s time to send those thoughts to the trash.

Thinking of thoughts as emails, as one enters our minds we need to address it (capture it) and make it obedient to Christ. If it doesn’t measure up to God’s truth then it needs to be deleted and sent to trash.

There is no need for those kind of thoughts to take up valuable space in our brains and in especially in our hearts.

Jesus told his disciples in Luke 11: 24-26, “When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order.  Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.”

The enemy is not going to give up his space in our thoughts easily. He will fight for it and so should we. When our hearts and minds are swept clean from wrong thoughts they then need to be filled with God’s truth so that there is no room for the enemy.

God has given us the choice to choose Him and His power and when we do no wrong thought will be allowed to enter or remain.

My Prayer

Father, thank you for explaining things to me the way that You do. I pray that I will clean house and then fill up on Your truth. The enemy will not give up this ground easily, but my heart and mind are Yours Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.
