Foundation of Faith

Why do we believe what we believe? Is it because we are following what our parents and grandparents believed and taught us or perhaps what the masses tell us to believe. Is your foundation of faith based on the promises of God’s word and do you know those promises for yourself?

Jochebed knew the promises of God and that He had foretold the bondage that the Israelites would experience in Egypt. She also knew that God had promised Abraham that the children of Israel would never perish. God’s word to Abraham was very specific, “Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there.  But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions.” (Genesis 15:13-14)

On the foundation of God’s promise not to destroy Israel, and on the basis that the four hundred years of servitude had been served- the parents of Moses believed that God would preserve their child and use him for God’s purpose.

We also have God’s promises for the future that we can base our faith and stand firm. In 2 Timothy 3:1-5, we are told, But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.  People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,  without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,  treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—  having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:14-17)

God’s Word has given us clear direction on how to face the ways of this world and remain faithful and hopeful. Jesus told His disciples that many signs and wonders would take place prior to His return. Even so, when you see all these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door. (Mark 13:29)

As we see the Word of God being fulfilled in the world around us, we can stand firm on His promise that He is returning soon and that as servants of God we are thoroughly equipped to daily face the challenges with confidence in the One who is the foundation of our faith.

Be Intentional about standing firm on your faith in God’s Word.
