For Such A Time As This

Haman’s anger and pride got the best of him and he devised a plot that would destroy the Jews. He then sweet talked the king into signing the decree and cast lots for the day that the deadly deed would be enforced.

Dispatches were sent by couriers to all the king’s provinces with the order to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews – young and old, women and children – all on a single day.

When Mordecai learned of all that had been done, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the city wailing loudly and bitterly.

When Esther was told about Mordecai’s reactions she sent her attendants to him. He sent back a copy of the edict to show her and explain to her what was happening and instructed her to beg the king for mercy and plead for her people.

She responded that the law prohibited her from approaching the king without being summoned and could result in death. Mordecai replied, “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this.”

There have been many new laws (decrees) in our own country that have been authorized by our leaders that do not honor God. Do we respond to them like Mordecai did? Heartbroken and desperate for God to intervene? Do we take action? Do we speak up for those who cannot?

Like Esther, we are in our royal positions for such a time as this. God has placed us in this exact time and place with purpose.

That purpose as a Daughter of the King is to speak up and take action as God leads. We must speak God’s truth and stand for those things that honor Him. Yes, it will take courage. Yes, it will take faith. But God has been preparing us for this moment in time and He will not fail us.

Father, I can only imagine how much Your heart must be breaking as You see the evil that is being allowed and encouraged in our nation. Help us to speak truth and to stand for the things of God. Give us the courage to boldly live for You and be available for the work You have been preparing us to do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
