Fill Your Mind With Worship

Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. Psalm 47:6

One of my favorite things to hear each morning when I wake up are the birds singing. They sound so cheerful and their melodies help to make my day start off on the right foot.

As I’ve been working on taking my thoughts captive, I read that filling them with worship will always help them to align with God’s will. If my mind is full of praises to my God, it cannot be filled with things of the flesh.

It’s a deliberate act to choose to worship regardless of the circumstances in your life. I tried this at work and while feeling the pressure of completing tasks, I mentally started humming a song of praise and devotion. That simple act of worship kept my mind clear of negative thoughts and I was able to complete the task with a good attitude.

Another example was when I was driving. My mind was swirling with thoughts about all kinds of things and I verbally said to myself, “take your thoughts captive.” It stopped the swirling, but I needed to fill my mind with better things so I turned on the radio and listened to KLOVE. At first my mind started to wander while the songs were playing, so I had to deliberately start singing them out loud. It worked! My mind began to focus on the words of the songs and it lead my thoughts back to the goodness and faithfulness of God.

One song in particular mentioned that I need to “Lay Me Down,” I need to make the decision to worship wholeheartedly and lay down anything that gets in the way of praising My Lord. The song’s lyrics reminded me that I belong to God and that there is no life apart from Him. “It will be my joy to say Your will, Your way,” were words of the song that spoke of complete surrender to God. Heart, mind and soul.

It’s in that act of worship that the Holy Spirit showed me how I’ve been given everything I need, in Christ, to be victorious over my thought life. Thank you Lord!
