Divine Encounters

Falling Leaves

Generation after generation stands in awe of your work; each one tells stories of your mighty acts. Your beauty and splendor have everyone talking; I compose songs on your wonders. – Psalm 145:4-5

I read a story of a Divine Encounter that touched my heart at God’s tenderness and detail. Dr. Beverly Rose is a woman who has a crippling muscular disease. She loves nature and hiking which made this story even more incredible.

She has a wheelchair that was specially designed with large tires for trails. One day while scaling a trail with friends she was just about to the summit when the terrain became too steep for her chair. With great determination she asked a friend to walk with her so she could experience the joy of reaching a summit before her disease progressed any further. In a sheer act of determination, she reach the top and was rewarded with spectacular views and elation in that victorious moment.

Sometime later while bedridden she looked out her window at the falling leaves and remembered that moment on the mountain top. How she longed to smell the fresh air and see the fall colors once more. Moments later there was a knock at the door and a dear friend had come to visit. As she entered the room she told Beverly to close her eyes as she reached in a large bag. Then as she threw handfuls of fresh fall leaves in the air she yelled, “Open your eyes.”

To Beverly’s amazement beautful fall leaves were twirling through the air and falling all around her. She could smell their scent and she was mentally transported back to that victorious moment on the mountain. Her friend hiked the mountiain the day before and picked up as many leaves as possible to share with Beverly.

Isn’t that just like God? He knew Beverly would be struggling that day and in preparation to let her know that He saw her, He placed it on her friend’s heart to climb the mountain and gather leaves so that their beautiful display of love would fall on her at the exact perfect moment when it was needed.
