Expecting Good
Today we leave on a long awaited vacation. For the last several months there has been quite a bit of overtime worked and I’m ready to have a week of rest and relaxation.
My mind has been whirling with all the preparations and the clock is ticking down to departure. I find myself getting anxious and worrying if the weather will cooperate. Will all the pieces come together and will we arrive at our destination safe and on time?
I was reminded today “not to be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
When I have the peace of God I find myself expecting good things to happen. With the right mindset I can then take in life as it happens. If the weather delays us, then we get an unplanned adventure. If all the pieces don’t fall exactly into place, then I get an opportunity to adjust and make the most of the situation.
Regardless of what might happen, I get the opportunity to go on vacation, have time away with my husband and friends. We’ll make memories and what I’ve found from listening to my clients experiences over the years is that the greatest memories have been made when things didn’t go as planned.
So I’m going to leave today expecting good things for the next week and I’m going to do it with thankfulness as I invite Jesus to come along with me. No matter what may come, He already knows what lies ahead and He’s already there. Knowing that is the best way of expecting good.
My prayer
Father, thank you for this opportunity to get away with my husband and friends for a time of rest and relaxation. I pray that we have safety in our travels and that we will be mindful of Your presence with us. Thank you for this incredible world you created and I pray that I’ll have opportunities to meet new people and share You with them. Thank you also for joyful expectation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Where does my help come from?
Philippians 4:6-7
