Live Boldly

Edit

The second word that I was given on my journey to take my thoughts captive was Edit. Many times I have found myself saying, “Delete,” whenever a wrong thought has entered my mind. It’s quite helpful and brings my mind back to attention; to truly think about what I’m thinking about, rather than mindlessly letting it wander.

Using the bible teaching in Luke 11:24-27 of the person who has swept their house (mind) clean of evil spirits (wrong thoughts) we find that just getting rid of them is not enough. We need to fill that space with right thoughts; the mind of Christ and to do that we need to do some editing.

That’s where the word “edit” can to mind. To edit means to remove unnecessary or inappropriate words, sounds, or scenes, a change or correction made. So rather than just deleting wrong thoughts the next step is to edit them and make them line up with the mind of Christ.

As the bible passage continues it warns that the evicted evil spirits won’t give up our minds without a fight. But if our minds are filled with the mind of Christ, our weapon, His word, is in place to ward off the attacks of the enemy.

What does it mean to have the mind of Christ? It means to set your mind on things above not on earthly things (Colossians 3:2). “This is the key to resisting temptation. When we make up our mind ahead of time what we will and won’t do, then when temptation comes, we have laid a foundation to make right choices and are more likely to successfully overcome the temptation.” (Battlefield of the Mind)

Next it means not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2) This means to fill your mind with the word of God. His truth! That’s editing.

So now when a wrong thought enters my mind I say, “Delete,” which helps me focus on what I’m thinking about and then I say, “Edit,” and I intentionally think of a bible verse or thought that would be pleasing to God in that situation.

The good news is that if we submit to God and resist the devil, he will flee from us. Eventually the attacks on the mind will lessen because the mind is filled with the things of God.

My Prayer

Father, I thank you for the way You teach me. Thank you for reminding me that our thoughts are our choice. Help me to delete the wrong thoughts and replace them with Your truth. Thank you for the peace that I’m experiencing as I put Your lessons for me into practice. I Love You Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Where does my help come from?

1 Corinthians 2:16

But we have the mind of Christ.
