Live Boldly

Doubtful Moments

Many of the people God used to accomplish great things started out as real doubters. With all of them, God showed great patience. Abraham and Sarah doubted when they were told they would be parents in their old age. Moses doubted his abilities to return and lead Israel from slavery. The Israelites doubted when they faced difficulties in the wilderness. But Mary’s response to God’s miraculous will was met with gracious submission. She believed the angel’s words and agreed to bear the child, even under humanly impossible circumstances.

Doubt can easily set in when we grow impatient waiting for the promises and will of God in our lives and the lives of our loved ones. Often, like the Israelites, there is pain and suffering in the waiting and we begin to think of turning back and letting go of the promises. But with each story mentioned above, God was faithful.

Promised children arrived right on schedule. Moses became one of the greatest leaders and prophets in Israel and the trusting Israelites saw the promised land. Those that continued to doubt, never arrived because they believed their problems were bigger than their God.

How great a part does doubt have in your willingness to trust God? Do you believe He is faithful? In Mark 9 there is a story of young boy that was demon possessed. His father brought him to Jesus to heal him. The man explained the boy’s condition and then said, “But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

We all experience doubtful moments, but when we take that moment and cry out to God just as that man did, “help me overcome my unbelief!”, we will be empowered by the Holy Spirit to remain faithful. Growing in faith is a constant process of daily renewing our trust in Jesus.

Be Intentional about trusting God with your doubts and fears. He is faithful!

Praises & Prayers

Father, thank you for Your faithfulness. I confess that I allow doubts to hinder my walk when I don’t see answers in my own timing or when the road becomes difficult. Help me to remain faithful and to believe. In Jesus’ name, amen.
