Descaling

This morning the alarm clock went off right on schedule. I was so comfortable as the scent of a light spring rain was drifting through the room from the open window. The comforter was just right and I did not want to move.

Finally after hitting the snooze button a few times I finally sat up and decided to face the day. It’s only Tuesday, but I’m dragging and the thought of a nice hot cup of coffee made me smile and get moving.

Unfortunately my coffee maker was not feeling up to working either. The red light was on indicating that it needed to descale. That means no coffee for a while. The hard water had built up and it would take several cycles to run the descaling solution through it to clear it out.

In the waiting I thought of how I’m sometimes like the coffee maker, I need some descaling. I need to remove the hard spots in my heart and the wrong deposits of thoughts in my mind.

Sometimes it takes several cycles of being washed with the truth to remove those wrong thoughts. For my coffee maker I use a descaling solution, for myself I need The Word. With both I pray that it will work and that my morning will get back to what I would like it to be.

In the bible we are told, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)

That is like the instructions on the back of the descaling solution bottle. Don’t let the buildup of this world become a pattern, something that will prevent you from fulfilling your purpose. But renew your mind, wash it with the word and you will be able to live out God’s good and perfect will.

I’m grateful for the reminder this morning. Who knew that a clogged up coffee maker was really a timely message from God. Thank you Lord! Now I’m off to get a hot cup of coffee.

My prayer

Father, thank you for early morning messages and the creative way You get my attention. I, just like my coffee maker, needed some descaling today. Wash me with Your word and help me to fully live in Your will for me. Thank you for moments with You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Where does my help come from?

Romans 12:2

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
