Dependent Faith
Before he had finished praying, Rebekah came out with a jar on her shoulder. Genesis 24:15
Abraham’s servant, Eliezer had been tasked with finding a wife for Isaac. As he approach a watering well in the land that he had been sent to, he prayed and asked God to make known to him the woman that God had chosen for Isaac. Before he even finished his prayer, Rebekah came out with a jar on her shoulder.
Obviously Eliezer had learned much about faith and about God from Abraham. He was putting into practice what he had seen in the life of Abraham and God was demonstrating His faithfulness both to Abraham and Eliezer in wonderful ways.
This story causes us to ask ourselves the questions, “What are my family members, friends and associates learning about God from watching me? Am I setting an example of dependent faith? Am I asking God for guidance before any venture? Are my actions leading others to Jesus? Like it or not, they are watching and your words, actions and obedience to God are being noted.
I was reminded of this by my oldest granddaughter recently. We were in the middle of painting the house and only had weekends to get it finished so we could move in. Although I was tired and worn out, I decided I would go to church. Upon arrival my granddaughter said, “I was wondering if you would stay home and paint or come to church today. I’m glad you came to church.”
I was so touched to hear and see her committment. I was also reminded that she is watching, learning and needs me to be an example to her as she grows in her relationship with Christ.
Thank you Lord for the beautiful reminders, for your faithfulness and promise that if we seek You first, all other things will be added.
