Dance In the Rain

Well Memorial Day Weekend turned out to be a bit soggy.  There were rain and thunder showers off and on throughout the weekend. Every time that I prayed, I would pray that we would make the most of the weekend and enjoy our time away.

Thankfully God answered those prayers and He did it in a very beautiful way.  On our way to our weekend home I was looking at Facebook posts from friends who were sharing their holiday weekend plans.  It was nice to see so many getting out there and braving the temperamental weather.

One post really touched my heart and stayed on my mind throughout the weekend.  It was from my co-worker and it was an update on her medical condition.  She has completed her first round of chemotherapy and done very well.  Her attitude is so amazing and showed in her update about losing her hair.

She told her son that losing her hair showed that the medicine was working and that her hair was just taking one for the team.   She had pictures of her hair loss, a new haircut and pictures with her new wigs.  She looked beautiful in all the pictures.  She thanked everyone for their love and support and her final words for the holiday weekend were, “Dance in the rain.”

All weekend long whenever the rain would start up I would think of her words and smile.   So I golfed in the rain and I walked in the rain and I fished in the rain because not every day is going to be sunny and life doesn’t need to stop until it does.

She is living with a sunny attitude during her storm, finding the positive and living in gratitude for each day that she is given.  We should be doing the same.  I read in 1 Samuel 20:3, “…There is only a step between me and death.”   That is true for all of us; we never know when our last day will be.  The most important thing is that we know the Lord and have chosen to live in a relationship with Him.  In the meantime we can live this life with an attitude of gratitude for each day that we’re given.

I watched several people throughout the weekend and saw many heading to the outdoor pool and hot springs, often in the rain.  Once in a while I thought they were crazy, but then I thought, “They’re going to get wet anyway, why not do it while having fun?”

This life is a gift and we can either hide inside and miss the moments or we can chose to get out there and dance in the rain.

My Prayer

Father, thank you for Patti’s beautiful attitude and example.   You made this weekend wonderful and I’m grateful for the rain moments.  They are times to remember that it can and will get better, but that rain also serves a purpose; it makes you look for the good and that good is present even in the storms.   Everything is so green and beautiful and it’s all because of the rain.  Help us to remember to thank You for the bad as well as the good.  You have a purpose for it all. Please continue to be with Patti and give her the encouragement and strength she needs.  In Jesus’ name, amen.

Where does my help come from?

Psalm 139: 16

“All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

Job 1:20

“The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”
