Divine Encounters,  Live Boldly

Compassion Lived Out

This week I was able to witness a very beautiful and at the same time heartbreaking scene. While at the viewing of a dear friend’s son, I was sitting with my friend when her mother was brought over to her in a wheelchair.

Her mother gently reached for her daughter’s hand and held it while asking her daughter how she was holding up. Through tears she replied that she was okay. She told her daughter how sorry she was that she was going through all this pain and sorrow and that she would be right there with her just like the daughter had been for her, when her son, the daughter’s brother had passed away a few years before.

The mother began to cry and through tears said, “We’ll get through this together, we’re strong women and we have each other.”

The love and compassion between these two women was so touching. Mother and daughter, each experiencing deep loss and encouraging one another and weeping together.

As my friend and I talked she cried and said, “It hurts so much and I know that you know.” While holding her I prayed for words to say and God’s reply was to hold her, let her cry and cry with her. And that we did.

The theme verse for Brock’s story is 2 Corinthians 1:3-4:

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,  who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

My Divine Encounter was a perfectly timed moment from God to see this compassion lived out between these to remarkable ladies.

Although you could see how the entire family was hurting, you could also see the love they have for each other. I know they will have tough days ahead, holidays will be different and their lives will be forever changed, but I also know that they will be going through it together. Comforting each other with the comfort I know they will receive from God.
