Comforting Friends
This life is going to give us challenges and seasons of grief. But we can find hope in the comforting words of Jesus, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
He has dealt with the issues that cause pain and suffering, however we will still feel the hurt and loss in this life. That is why He blessed us with comforting friends.
This type of friend is with you when your heart is breaking. They cry with you, love on you, encourage you and they walk through the trials with you. Even years later you will remember the many kindnesses of these friends.
It’s a funny thing how you can forget what you went into the kitchen for but you will always remember every little detail of a tragedy that you have survived.
I was speaking with such a friend this week and although we haven’t seen each other in years, one mention of a rainbow in the sky on a particular day and we were both back in time. Many of the emotions of that day were front and center in our minds and we both were grateful for how our relationship carried us through.
Isn’t that just like God to bring a memory back at just the right moment!
What an example this precious lady is to me. Not only did she comfort and encourage me then and now, but she had called to purchase airline tickets for her and a friend to attend a celebration of life for her friend’s father. Her friend didn’t want to be alone and my dear friend made sure she wasn’t.
Comforting friends are a gift from God.
Be Intentional about comforting your friends.
Praises & Prayers
Father, thank you for overcoming all the troubles in this world and for sending comforting friends to walk with us through this life. I’m so grateful for the many kindnesses that these types of friendships have shown me over the years and I pray that I will follow their example and be a comforting friend to others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Messages from His Word
2 Corinthians 1: 3-4
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
