Changed In An Instant
Jochebed’s story begins in the book of Exodus chapter 1. As an Israelite her life, along will all the others, was changed in an instant when a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt and he saw them as a threat. He dealt shrewdly with them desiring to oppress them and crush their spirits.
As I read the first chapter of Exodus I wondered how that could happen so quickly. The Israelites were numerous and had become established in the land of Goshen, then in an instant everything changed and they become slaves. Their freedom was taken away from them and they were burdened with new tasks that were placed upon them.
After March 2020 I believe we can all relate at some level. In an instant everything changed in the world we had known and been comfortable with. Lockdowns took place, businesses were closed, new tasks were given and we felt the burden of a quickly changing world.
But just like in Egypt, what the enemy meant for evil, God can use for good. When we are burdened and mistreated, we may feel defeated. But our burdens can make us stronger by driving us to prayer and developing perseverance in us that will prepare us for the future. We cannot be overcomers without troubles to overcome.
So many lives were changed in an instant, but looking back we can start to see some of the good that God is bringing from this. We began to see what really matters, our relationship with God and it is the one thing that cannot be taken away from us. Many lost jobs, homes, family members and friends. We have had to learn to live life differently and it’s in that new normal that we hold tight to the One who has remained constant – Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
As life continues to change and we try to adjust we can hold tightly to the One who never changes. The One who is our solid foundation. The One who is our refuge and strength. Remember the end of the story…..God wins!
Be Intentional about trusting in God when the world around you crumbles.
Praises & Prayers
Father, thank you for Your faithfulness, hope and love. Sometimes mountains have to be shaken to get our attention and I pray that as they shake, we will hold firmly to You and Your promises. Thank you for Your words of encouragement and help us to remain faithful. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Messages from His Word
Isaiah 54:10
Though the mountains be shaken
and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you.
