Rachel & Dawson
Several years ago when Brocksstory was written I came in contact with a sweet woman named Rachel. She is a friend of the office manager for my brother’s medical clinic in Utah and lives in the Midwest. Rachel had just been informed that her son Dawson had terminal cancer. When my brother heard her story he suggested that she read Brock’s Story in hopes that it would help her through the heart wrenching months ahead. She contacted me and we were able to talk several times through social media and my heart broke for her. Dawson was a handsome young man with the most beautiful smile. When Dawson went to…

Pulling a Tooth
My Divine Encounter this week involved pulling a tooth. My oldest granddaughter, Kyrie, had a tooth that was quite loose and had been for a while. She anxiously wiggled the tooth every day and tried to anticipate what it would be like to lose a tooth. I told her she would be able to do something that many of us couldn’t. She would be able to eat a tootsie pop sucker with her teeth closed because the stick would go through the hole that the lost tooth would make. She didn’t quite understand what I was talking about but one night during dinner I received a phone call from Kyrie.…

Amelia
I needed to stop by the grocery store after work to pick up a few items before I was to be at an evening appointment. There was a store about 3 minutes from my office, but when I thought about what I needed and prayed for time to get my task accomplished, I ended up going to a store across town which was the opposite direction of where I needed to go. While in the store I quickly gathered all the items on my list and made my way to the checkout lines. I looked them over trying to find one with the shortest line of customers and ended up…

Tears of Sadness
Last week I received a call from a client who wanted to take a trip with her mother. She had suddenly lost her father and they were both devastated. They were hoping that some time away together would help since they both were having a difficult time with their emotions. While I was finalizing the arrangements I had the opportunity to talk with the mother, Linda on the phone. As soon as the call began she apologized for crying and said she has a hard time not crying, it’s all to big too take in. I prayed to know what to say that would help her. My heart went out…

A Hug Moment
The night before we were to leave on vacation I asked my husband if the truck was full of fuel for the next morning’s drive to the airport. He said he would do it on the way. I was a bit stressed about that because the flight was oversold and I didn’t want to have any delays. So I decided to get take out for dinner and fill up the truck. I have to add that my attitude wasn’t the best and I was trying to start the vacation off with the right mood. Then God intervened. While filling up the truck I saw a gentleman at the adjoining pump…

Chef Tony
There is a man that is a partner in a restaurant nearby where I work, his name is Tony. Every day he has the best attitude no matter how his day is going. Some days when the customers are few and far between you will find him busily working on new recipes and bringing them by the office for taste testers. On busy days as he is rushing to serve all the hungry patrons, he does it with a smile and an “isn’t this great,” mentality. In the morning he is jamming to music while he preps food for the day and never misses an opportunity to say, “Good morning…

Service With A Smile
Every Wednesday my mother and I meet for lunch at a small diner. We have been doing this for a little over a year now and it gives us time to talk with each other and catch up. The staff at the diner are wonderful ladies that work very hard. One in particular is Marquetta. She always has such a beautiful smile and say, “Hi ladies, welcome back.” I noticed that one of her fingers was injured and splinted and asked if she was alright. She shared that she had broken it and there were a few pins in the bone to hold it in place. I can’t imagine how…

Janice – A Shot of Joy
This week I want to tell you about Janice. She works in the same building that I do and every morning she is a highlight of the day. I have never seen her in anything but a joyful mood. She arrives early to fill in at a small coffee shop for her daughter as they are moving to another location. She never misses a moment to say “Good Morning,” to anyone passing by. We work in an historic building and the floors are similar to cobblestone and the ceilings are very high and open which echoes when you walk on them with high hills. Janice has nicknamed me “Happy Feet,”…

Compassion Lived Out
This week I was able to witness a very beautiful and at the same time heartbreaking scene. While at the viewing of a dear friend’s son, I was sitting with my friend when her mother was brought over to her in a wheelchair. Her mother gently reached for her daughter’s hand and held it while asking her daughter how she was holding up. Through tears she replied that she was okay. She told her daughter how sorry she was that she was going through all this pain and sorrow and that she would be right there with her just like the daughter had been for her, when her son, the…

Sea of Faces
In the last few weeks there have been so many Divine Encounters that it’s hard to pick just one to mention. I found myself really seeking them out after adding the page to the blog. In adding the page, it added another level of accountability; to be present and be aware of what God was showing me. Throughout the week the lyrics of a song called Sea of Faces, by Kutless kept coming to mind and they are perfect for the “You Matter” project: I see the city lights all around meEveryone’s obscureTen million people each with their problemsWhy should anyone care? And in your eyes I can see… I…
