Can I Trust You
The other day I was shopping at Walmart. I’m not a big fan of their new self-checkout system especially when you have bulky items like the good sized house plant I was purchasing. As I was scanning items in the cart it felt like I was playing the shell game. You know the one where you shuffle the shells all around looking for the piece underneath.
The few grocery items that I was purchasing were hiding around the plant and as I scanned them and bagged them I ran out of room on the counter. The machine would keep asking if I was bagging that item and it seemed as though it was impatient with my sorting.
Then I noticed my picture on the camera. At first it startled me because I hadn’t noticed the camera attached to the screen. A few moments later an employee asked if I needed any assistance. It seemed as if there were eyes everywhere.
After I finished bagging the items and paying for them, with receipt in hand I headed to the door. A nice young man was greeting people and I asked if he needed to see the receipt, which they usually do now because of the self-checkout system. His reply was, “Can I trust you?” My response was, “Of Course.” With a big smile he said, “Then have a great day and thank you for shopping at Walmart.”
As I think about that encounter I’m reminded of how God works in our lives. We go about our daily activities and sometimes there is a lot of shuffling around and awkwardness. He always sees us and knows what is taking place. He sends assistance when needed through others like our friends and family. They are available at a push of a button. We don’t need proof that He’s there and when we ask Him if we can trust Him, the answer is always, “Of Course.”
Thank you Lord for the little moments.
