Campfires

It’s Labor Day weekend and I’m at our weekend home. The campground is full of people celebrating the long weekend and enjoying some of the last days of summer.

As the day begins to wind down the campfires are lighting up and the scents of the outdoors are everywhere. Kids are excited to cook hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire and family and friends are circling the fire pits with their camp chairs.

In my quiet place by the river I can hear voices throughout the campground of families sharing stories, laugh and enjoying each others company. There’s something about a campfire that brings people together and quiets your soul.

As I sit here watching my fire I am mesmerized by the flames. They look like they are dancing and swirling causing the wood to crackle and pop. The longer I watched the flames the more hypnotized I became. I found myself completely relaxed and for the first time today I just sat still.

The stars began to appear and the sliver shape of a moon shone bright. I just sat in awe of what God has done. It was the perfect setting to express my gratefulness to God.

I had arrived this weekend praying for some answers and needing rest. Throughout the weekend God provided both. It was also a time for Him to teach me that I’m not alone. Although Tracy was in another state on a working vacation, I was not alone at our weekend home.

God provided family and friends scattered throughout the weekend and He also provided quiet time for myself, alone with Him. He also gave me the most beautiful finale last night at the campfire.

As the fire burned down it began to smoke. A light breeze picked up the smoke and drifted it across the river. With the glow of the lights from the hot pools it made it look like the forest was floating in the clouds.

It was so peaceful and serene. He was right there with me and we had our own campfire moment.

My Prayer

Father, thank you for this beautiful world You created. So much variety with all the colors and scents. Thank you for quiet moments with You at the campfire and for a time to express my gratitude. Thank you for always being with me and showing me that You are always watching over me. I love you Lord! In Jesus’ name, amen.

Where does my help come from?

Psalm 46:10

“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God.”
