Live Boldly

Boundary Lines

On the final morning of the Labor Day weekend I had a perfect bible study message. It came from Psalm 16:6-11 and tied in perfectly with the lessons on training and boundaries that I’ve been learning with Roscoe.

Sometimes training is difficult and painful, but always with purpose. God is a good God and only wants what’s best for us so when I read the first portion of the passage it made my heart smile because it is so true.

“Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;
    you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    surely I have a delightful inheritance.
I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;
    even at night my heart instructs me.
 I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
    With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.”

Isn’t it wonderful to have a God who cares so much about us that He will set boundaries! He knows our limits and He is always ready to correct course when needed.

But to know in my heart that my boundary lines have fallen in pleasant places is such an amazing thing. Those pleasant places are found right in the middle of God’s will and that’s something to be delighted about and praise God for.

I’m grateful for His counsel and instruction. Think about that for a moment. THE God of the Universe counsels and instructs us. No wonder David said that he keeps his eye always on the Lord and knew that with God at his right hand, he would not be shaken. We can know the same.

David’s request for God was, “keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.”

Within the boundary lines that God has given us, we can find everything we need. He is our Provider, our Counselor, our Rock, our Refuge, our Everything!

My Prayer

Father, thank you for the boundary lines that You have provided and that they have fallen in pleasant places. I’m grateful for Your ways and I find security within Your boundaries for me. I desire to be right in the middle of Your will and I know that Your will make known to me the path of life You have chosen for me. Lord, You make my heart glad and my spirit rejoice! In Jesus’ name, amen.

Where does my help come from?

Psalm 16: 5-11

“Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;
    you make my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    surely I have a delightful inheritance.
 I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;
    even at night my heart instructs me.
 I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
    With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
    my body also will rest secure,
because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
    nor will you let your faithful one see decay.
 You make known to me the path of life;
    you will fill me with joy in your presence,
    with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”
