Blessed are Those Who Hunger & Thirst

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. – Matthew 5:6

What does it mean to hunger and thirst for righteousness?  It means to greatly desire to know God and understand His will for our lives. This knowledge will lead us on the path of righteousness and will help transform us in becoming more and more like Jesus. 

Everything that is needed for living a godly life has graciously been given to us in God’s Word.  As we study the Bible we will become personally and intimately acquainted with the character, commandments and promises of God.  We begin to experience His character in action as we recognize His presence in every situation we encounter. This combination of knowing Him and experiencing His presence in our lives forms the foundation of our personal relationship with Christ.

As we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we will develop a hunger and thirst for the things of God, which will create a passion where everything else is worthless when compared with the surpassing greatness of knowing Him.  His thoughts and plans will become treasures that we desire even more than our daily bread.

God’s promise of being filled or satisfied means that God Himself will fulfill our intense desire for a right relationship with Him.  When we actively seek Him we will discover that He alone, completely saves and satisfies our souls.  Lord, I want to know You more!
